1. Casey- Hedwig

From the beginning of the story, Casey and her friends are abducted and do not know anything about Kevin until he keeps changing his identities when he wants to talk to them. One of personalities that can be a gear to drive the plot is Hedwig.

How this affect the plot?

Casey tends to talk to Hedwig more than the other personalities. This is because Hedwig is the personality of a 9-year-old boy and it is easy to approach other personalities from making conversation with him. According to this reason, she turns this into an opportunity to get out of the basement where Kevin keeps them in order to make these girls as an offering to The Beast, the 24th personality, as shown in the scene below.

In this scene, Hedwig comes to introduce himself with the girls, but the only one who talks to him is Casey. She keeps asking many questions and requests such as who?, tell us, can you help us, Hedwig?, which can show her fear and desire to survive from such terrifying abduction. The use of directive speech acts (e.g. request or command) of Casey's interaction with Kevin, then, can show her action in terms of finding the way to escape from this risky situation.

Dr. Fletcher is the psychologist that try to help the MPD protagonist to express their personalities safely since she believes that this disorder can be treated. However, this brought her to the end of her life when she went to meet Dennis after got emergent emails sent by Barry.

How this affect the plot?
In her treatment session, she tries to ask Barry what is going on to the other personalities since she assumes that there might be something happen from getting many  emergency emails from Barry. When Barry come to visit her to keep his personalities in check, she always tries to convince him to be more open to reveal other personalities, especially Dennis, as shown in this following video.

From this part of the movie, her reaction after she sense peculiarity from the emails sent by Barry is trying to ask him whether there is anything wrong. She also tries to guess the real personality that she's talking to by giving examples to prove that the personality that she is talking to is not Barry, but Dennis. Finally, Barry gives in and lets Dennis takes over Kevin's body. This helps Dr. Fletcher to be able to approach more information in terms of what Dennis believes about The Beast. She has positive attitudes towards this personality that she believes he does not have an evil mind and does not think that there will be another dangerous personality in his body. However, this can become the twist of the plot since Dennis finally believes that The Beast is real and the most powerful of all the other personalities, which prove Fletcher wrong that her thought about helping this MPD protagonist can be successful.
