Hypothesis of the study, Processes, and references

The hypothesis of the study

➯ Characteristics of the character affect the frequency of speech acts used by the character.

➯ Perlocutionary acts can affect the plot development of the movie.

Processes of the study

  1. Watch the movie “Split(2016)”
  2. Collect the data from the speech of the main character named Kelvin
  3. Identify the type of illocutionary acts used in particular speeches of the character by using Searle’s speech acts theory
  4. Analyze the frequency of illocutionary acts that the character used. (Each personality if possible)
  5. Analyze how the illocutionary acts of the character affect the other characters and the plot development of the movie.
